Missing our little man tonight.
It’s been a crazy few weeks since we moved down to LA. We’re still trying to figure out which end is up in our new place, I’ve been sick for the past week, and Steve and I have both been scrambling at work trying to get ready for some big upcoming events (Steve has his first day of class at the new school on Monday!)
This is the definition of a silly first world problem, but it turns out it’s not as easy as I expected to furnish an apartment when you are no longer solely reliant on Ikea and CraigsList. I’ve only ever had to furnish an entire apartment once before–my studio in Berkeley–and that was a tiny space and I didn’t have much money to spend on it. I think a lot of people our age have acquired a variety of furniture by now, but because we’ve lived together in furnished places while sorting out where we were going to be long-term, we moved down here with only a bed, a few bookshelves, some storage, a desk, and two chairs (thank goodness for our chairs!). I’m not sure how people figure out how to get furniture that works together all at once. This may be obvious to most people, but I’m also learning that it takes a lot of time for furniture from non-Ikea stores to arrive. And it’s kind of hard to justify waiting 8-12 weeks for a couch when all you have is two chairs🙂 We are trying to be budget conscious while also wanting to finally live like adults. And more than anything, I think we both want to be finished living in an empty house with boxes all around, as we have been since June.
